Adding microformats to this site
This site is mostly one button that sends you somewhere else. Behind it is a static page for every place the button can land, built at deploy time so a search engine can read it without running any script. This post is the first page here that is not one of those.
I wanted it to be readable by IndieWeb tools, which means microformats2. The markup is a handful of class names on ordinary HTML. The post is wrapped in an element with class h-entry. The title carries p-name, the body carries e-content, the date is a time element with dt-published and a machine-readable datetime, and the permanent address is a link with u-url. The author is an h-card with the site's name and address and nothing else, because the site is the author here, not a person.
None of that changes how the page looks. It only tells a parser which parts are which. I checked it with the parser at php.microformats.io, which reads the live page and prints what it found.
The next step was IndieNews, a shared news page for IndieWeb posts. You do not sign up. You add a u-syndication link pointing at your entry's own listing, publish, and then send a Webmention from your post to that address. IndieNews fetches the post, reads the microformats, and lists it. The Webmention went out after this post was live, and the link below now points at the listing it created.
That is the whole setup: a few class names, one link, and one request. No accounts, no plugin, and nothing new for the button to carry.
